LABOR AND BIRTH PREPARATION (several series options available - weeknights and weekends)
Learn about the process birth, possible medical interventions and ways to cope with and manage labor/birth pain including medication options and relaxation skills. This class teaches through lecture, discussions, films and practice.
Also, consider taking one of our combination series which include Breastfeeding and Baby Care. All of these series are free with state medical insurance. Registration required.
LABOR, BIRTH, BREASTFEEDING & BABY CARE ACCELERATED - 2-night series
No time? No problem! Attend our accelerated program that provides you with valuable information to help you through labor, birth and the first few days of having baby at home. Learn about the birth process, hospital procedures, relaxation techniques, medication and intervention options for birth, cesarean birth, newborn care and breastfeeding basics. Due to the fast pace of this class there is less practice time for relaxation skills than in our other Labor and Birth Preparation series. TEEN LABOR, BIRTH, BREASTFEEDING & BABY CARE CLASS
Our Teen Labor and Birth class is specifically designed to meet the special needs of the expectant teen. Learn about the process of birth, breathing and relaxation skills for increased comfort, labor support skills, and medication and anesthesia options for pain management. Other topics include variations of labor, induction, and cesarean birth. We will also address issues such as goal setting, making decisions, solving problems and school issues. RELAXATION AND COPING SKILLS FOR BIRTH
This class is appropriate for couples who have previously taken a labor and birth preparation class. Relaxation and Coping Skills for Birth gives you an opportunity to explore and practice various techniques of relaxation including imagery, massage, breathing, positioning for birth, aromatherapy and other options for coping with stress and discomfort. WATER BIRTH CLASS
Expectant mothers interested in a water birth will be required to attend a water birth class offered by Southwest, where they will be introduced to the process and offered a water birth kit for purchase online at www.swEvents.org. For safety reasons, there are specific eligibility requirements.
At this time, Family Physician Group of Southwest Washington, Vancouver Clinic Midwives, Èlan Midwifery, and Family Medicine of Southwest Washington are providing water birth services and have credentialed providers. Click this link to choose a date and register online.
FAMILY BIRTH CENTER PROGRAM POLICY
EXCEPTION:To register using a state medical insurance or if you prefer to pay by check, please call 360.514.BABY (2229). State medical insurance will pay for any variation of our Labor and Birth Preparation Series.
Cancellation Policy: Refunds are only available for special medical conditions requiring bed rest or in cases where pre-term deliveries occur.
PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet minimum enrollment requirements. Should this occur, we will call registered participants to reschedule. If the alternative date is not convenient for you, a full refund will be issued.
