Volunteer Services is a highly structured program, with an average of 350 active, dedicated volunteers providing excellent service to our staff, patients, and guests. Adult and junior volunteers donate over 80,000 hours per year. Volunteers typically serve one four-hour shift per week.
Volunteers provide service in over 50 service areas affiliated with PeaceHealth Southwest. These sites include the Medical Center campus on Mill Plain Blvd, Specialty Care Clinic, and our Memorial campus on the west side of town. In addition to many clerical positions, volunteers may also provide emotional support to patients, guests and families. These areas include the Emergency Department, Intensive Care and Cardiovascular Intensive Care Units, Surgery, Short Stay Unit, and several Nursing Units. Volunteers also greet guests and patients, assist with admitting, give directions, provide wheelchair escorts, and deliver flowers. Volunteers may request a particular service site, however, placement cannot be guaranteed.
Volunteers also enjoy supporting the Gift Shops. Various weekday shifts are available. Net proceeds from the Gift Shops are earmarked for PeaceHealth Southwest Foundations health career scholarships.
